World Car-Free Day – Commit to Sustainable Mobility!

On September 23, FEUP will celebrate World Car-Free Day, encouraging the entire community to adopt more sustainable mobility practices. This initiative offers an opportunity to rethink daily car usage and opt for more eco-friendly transportation methods.

How to participate?

Commit to using sustainable transportation methods, such as biking, public transport, or walking, by filling out this form by September 22. All participants will automatically be entered into a raffle to win one of three €50 Fnac vouchers, which will be drawn among the platform’s subscribers.

FEUP Community’s Participation in Car-Free Day

By participating in Car-Free Day, the FEUP community has taken an important step towards sustainable mobility. In 2023, there was a significant increase in participation compared to the previous year, with nearly double the number of platform subscribers. This growth reflects an increasing awareness of environmental issues on our campus and a collective commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

In 2023, a total of 458 community members participated in the initiative, with 71 being staff members and 387 students. Notably, 118 members who regularly use cars chose to switch to more sustainable alternatives on this day, including public transport, walking, and cycling.

Initiatives like this are crucial in fostering gradual behavior changes, bringing us closer to a more sustainable future. We invite everyone to continue this commitment beyond Car-Free Day, making sustainable mobility a daily habit.
