I truly believe that the Chemical Engineering course is a great choice for anyone with a love of chemistry and the small elements of the world around us. Often referred to as a 'broadband' course, it is one of the most versatile courses in modern engineering. It has a demanding study environment, yet it is taught in a way that prepares the future engineer well for the job, whether that job is on a small scale in a laboratory or working with several tonnes of material in a large company.
There are also plenty of opportunities for contact with real companies, through career fairs and study visits, development of soft-skills applicable to various areas, extracurricular activities, training and internships, many of them organised by student bodies for students, such as the Chemical Engineering Students' Group (NEEQ). This group also has a bank of notes with study material donated by students, and there is a friendly spirit of mutual help among students from various years. At FEUP, however, it is not only studies and classes, there is always time to relax, to party, to play sports, to have fun, and to dedicate time and value to the friendships of Porto, a city cold in winter but always warm at heart.
I advise any student to enter Chemical Engineering at FEUP, and I will be very happy to welcome the new students and show them the best of FEUP, either in the day to day or through the peer mentoring project MIEQ+.
