TEACHING

The Laboratory of Vibrations and Monitoring (ViBest) has provided support to experimental teaching activities in the context of the following Master Courses:

  • Theory of Structures
  • Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering
  • Instrumentation and Observation of Structures

The most common experimental tests performed as support to teaching activities are the following:

  • Experimental evaluation of natural frequencies of physical models idealized as SDOF systems;
  • Experimental evaluation of viscous damping ratios;
  • Experimental evaluation of the response to an impulsive load induced by a hammer;
  • Experimental evaluation of natural frequencies of physical models idealized as MDOF systems;
  • Visualization of mode shapes by exciting physical models in resonance on a small shaking table;
  • Evaluation of modal damping ratios based on free vibration tests;
  • Experimental evaluation of the dynamic response to seismic excitations induced by a small shak-ing table;
  • Experimental characterization of vibratory phenomena and comparison with limit values indi-cated in standards, from the structural integrity and human comfort point of view;
  • Experimental identification of modal parameters in structures of small and medium size, on the basis of Experimental Modal Analysis techniques;
  • Performance of ambient vibration tests in bridges;
  • Experimental evaluation of dynamic effects based on a dynamic measurement system with strain gages;
  • Experimental evaluation of dynamic effects in railway, roadway and pedestrian bridges.
