How does the Psychological Support work
Psychology consultations offered by GOI are aimed at all FEUP students.
A psychology consultation lasts approximately 50 minutes. This duration may, however, be extended whenever it proves necessary or essential for the patient’s well-being and safety.
The duration of psychological counseling varies, depending on a number of factors, such as the nature of the request, the pace of each person, the therapeutic relationship, etc.
It can last one appointment, a month, a semester or a year, depending on the subject, pathology or disorder being addressed. It also depends on how the patient feels throughout the treatment. As long as the results are perceived as positive and evolving, it is valid to continue with the therapeutic process.
The patient has the right to stop treatment if they wish. However, it’s important to consider that the goals of the therapeutic process have been met and that both the psychologist and the patient agree that it’s time to end the treatment.
No. In a psychology consultation, the issues/difficulties that the person brings to the consultation are addressed.
Psychological counseling can help you get to know yourself better and make and implement the necessary changes to overcome your difficulties, problems and/or conflicts.
Psychological support can bring many benefits, such as:
- • Support and encouragement for behavioral changes (e.g. changes in dysfunctional habits and routines);
- • Encouraging the pursuit of achievements and success, whether personal, academic or professional;
- • Improving communication and relationships with people;
- • Confidance to act;
- • Coping with fears, traumas and other situations;
• Reducing anxious and/or depressive states.
Yes, it is possible to request a statement of attendance at consultations.
No. There is no record of psychological support in a student’s academic file. Psychological support is confidential.
