Internationally recognized and impactful research

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management works together with two main research and innovation institutes (INESC TEC and INEGI) where our research groups find the right environment to excel.

DEGI carries out internationally-recognized research on the following main scientific areas:

  • Operations Research & Operations Management
  • Decision Support and Intelligent Systems
  • Business Analytics, Business Intelligence and Performance Management
  • Service Engineering and Design
  • Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship

We cross-fertilize the aforementioned areas on a multidisciplinary environment to address real-world challenges in different sectors (manufacturing, retail, health, mobility). We then turn science into economic value by means of a mix of technology transfer processes, from the pure transfer of technology to collaborative development, advanced consulting and training, until the possible creation of spin-offs.
