José António Sarsfield Cabral
Emeritus Professor
José António Sarsfield Cabral graduated (1973) and obtained his PhD (1990) in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
At this Faculty, where he taught from 1984 to 2019 (Full Professor since 2006), he played a decisive role in the creation and development of FEUP’s Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, which he headed between 2008 and 2018.
At the University of Porto, he held various management positions, including Pro-Rector (1999 to 2014), where he was responsible for the Continuous Improvement service. He was also Director of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at FEUP (2008 to 2018), Director of the Degree in Industrial Management and Engineering, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NET – Novas Empresas e Tecnologias, S.A., a member of the General Council of EGP / Porto Business School and a member of the Executive Committee of the Gomes Teixeira Foundation.
Outside the University of Porto, he was a member of the Installation Committee and the Board of Directors of APGEI (Portuguese Association of Industrial Management), Vice-President of the Portuguese Association for Quality, President of the Foundation for the Douro Museum and President of the Technical Advisory Board of the Association for the Development of Douro Viticulture.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of A3ES (Agency for the Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education), a member of the Board of Trustees of the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation and Chairman of the General Assembly of the Bagos d’Ouro Association.
The Full Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (DEGI) of the Faculty of Engineering gave his last lecture on 1 March 2019.
In 2015 he was honoured by the Portuguese Association for Quality (AQP) with the Quality Personality Award, and in 2020 he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus of the University of Porto.

President (past) of APDIO – the Portuguese Operational Research Society. Scientific and Development activities in Operational Research/Management Science.

Jorge Freire de Sousa
Retired Professor
JORGE FREIRE DE SOUSA got a degree in Electrical Engineering from UP (1978), a MSc. in Operations Research from the Technical University of Lisbon (1989) and a PhD. in Engineering Science from UP (1996). He has been Member of the Board of STCP, the Public Transport Company of Porto (1998-2002 and 2006-2012). He has been Head of the Industrial Engineering and Management Unit at FEUP (1997-98 and 2003-05), where he also teaches. He is a research member of CEGI, a research unit of the INESC-TEC LA.
His main research interests are: Transportation, Decision Support Systems, Applied Operations Research.

José Manuel Mendonça
Emeritus Professor
Emeritus professor at the University of Porto and senior researcher at the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC). He is also national director of the UT Austin Portugal Programme.
He was President of the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation.
He obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.

Jorge Pinho de Sousa

Jorge Manuel Pinho de Sousa. Aggregation in 2005 by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). PhD in Applied Sciences (Operational Research), within the framework of the “European Doctoral Program in Quantitative Methods in Management” in 1989 from the Université Catholique de Louvain. Master’s degree in Operational Research and Systems Engineering in 1987 from the University of Lisbon. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Digital Systems and Computers, in 1977 from FEUP. Full Professor at FEUP, in the Department of Engineering and Industrial Management. Researcher, project coordinator at INESC TEC (the Institute of Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science.) Director of the Doctoral Program in Transport Systems [MIT Portugal Program] at FEUP. Coordinator of the post-graduation programme in Operations Management at Porto Business School (U Porto). He has published more than 50 articles in indexed international journals. He has actively participated in several national and European R&D projects in the areas of Supply-Chain Management, Operations Management, Collaborative Networks, Transport and mobility systems, and Logistics.
