ADHD is an inaccurate \u2014 and potentially corrosive \u2014 name. The term \u201cdeficit disorder\u201d places ADHD in the realm of pathology, or disease. Individuals with ADHD do not have a disease, nor do they have a deficit of attention; in fact, what they have is an abundance of attention. The challenge is controlling it.<\/p>\n

Therefore, we argue that a more accurate descriptive term is \u201cvariable attention stimulus trait\u201d (VAST), a name that allows us to \u201cde-medicalize\u201d ADHD and focus instead on the huge benefits of having an ADHD brain. (…)”<\/p>\n
