INSTITUTO PARA A CONSTRUÇÃO SUSTENTÁVEL (ICS) respects and values the privacy of its customers, employees, partners, suppliers, and other personal data subjects with whom it has dealings.
This privacy notice explains how we use this information, describing the terms and purposes for which we process it.
About Privacy Policy
ICS respects your preferences regarding the processing of your Personal Data.
‘Personal Data‘ refers to information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (’Data Subject”). An identifiable natural person can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.
This Privacy Policy lets you know how ICS collects and uses your Personal Data, how you can control its use and describes our practices in relation to information collected on other websites that link to or refer to this Policy (such as websites, software applications, social networks, and electronic messaging), as well as offline marketing and sales activities (collectively, ‘Communication Channels’).
Communication Channels may provide links to other non-ICS platforms managed by third parties. We therefore encourage you to check the general terms of use and privacy policies of these websites, services, social networks, or applications before providing your Personal Data, as this privacy policy only applies to this website. ICS is not responsible for those websites, services, social networks, or applications managed by third parties to which the links in our communication channels may refer.
What information do we collect from you?
The user can browse and access the ICS website without necessarily providing personal data.
The website does, however, include functionalities and services that ICS cannot provide without us having access to some of the user’s personal data.
Thus, the ICS collects information from the data subject when they register and browse the website and the icfeup Portal; when they enter, make available, or update their personal data; when they submit an application; when they register for a training course or event; when they subscribe to the newsletter or other identified notifications; when they voluntarily complete questionnaires, use chat tools, provide opinions, respond to requests, submit a support request; or when they contact the ICS, through the contacts and forms available on the website and on the icfeup Portal.
The data collected and processed is that which is necessary for the purpose for which you contacted us and may include, in this context, data such as your name, telephone number, email address, date of birth, VAT number, identification document (number and validity), CAP number, subject that led to the contact, training areas/training courses you are applying for, and curriculum vitae, among others.
By providing information, you are giving your informed and unequivocal consent to the automated processing of data concerning you, as well as authorizing its collection, use, and disclosure in accordance with the rules set out herein.
We ask you not to send or share with the ICS any sensitive personal information such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, as well as genetic data, biometric data, health data, or data relating to sex life or sexual orientation.
Some of the data requested is compulsory and is labeled, and the lack or inaccuracy of the answers given may jeopardize the service provided.
Website usage information is collected using cookies but does not specifically identify you, and the following data is or may be collected:
- IP address.
- Geographical location.
- Information about the device accessing the website, namely browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, preferred language, information contained in HTTP headers and agent version.
- The search engine you used to locate and access the website.
- Date and time of activity on the website, as well as web pages and content visited and clicked on.
It should be noted that this usage information does not deliberately identify you and if it does, it will be anonymized immediately.
How do we use information about you?
The data collected and processed is necessary for the purpose for which you contacted us, to provide the services requested/contracted, to manage your requests, and, when requested, to send you newsletters and information about other products, services, events, projects, and training programs by email, sms, mms or any other communication channel, which we think may be of interest to you.
We may also, with your consent, send your personal information to partner organizations so that they can offer you their products, services, and up-to-date information.
ICS does not share your information for marketing campaigns with companies outside the ICS universe or transfer your Personal Data to a third country.
Although the information you provide is generally treated as private at ICS, the data collected will be used in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation throughout the processing process; it may, however, be necessary to transfer Personal Data privately to other bodies, in particular the judiciary, and when processing your request, we may send your data to use information from credit agencies and fraud prevention.
You have the right to complain to a European Union Supervisory Authority regarding the protection of your Personal Data. ICS will cooperate with the Supervisory Authority by providing it with all the information requested by it in the exercise of its powers.
The information collected on this website does not involve automated decision-making, including profiling.
This website does not make comparisons, interconnections, or any other way of interrelating the information recorded.
Because your data may circulate on an open network, it runs the risk of being seen and used by unauthorized third parties.
ICS assumes no liability whatsoever when, for unrelated or unknown reasons, error, damage, dissemination, or unauthorized access occurs as a result of the electronic data transmission that may take place between ICS and the Data Subject.
ICS only accepts registrations, applications, enrolments, and requests for information from users who are at least 16 years old, or represented by their legal guardians. ICS Communication Channels are not aimed at underage users. If you become aware of any registration made by a minor, please alert us so that we can immediately remove their registration.
The recipients or categories of recipients of your Personal Data are the various ICS Local Units, duly authorized and identified for this purpose.
We share your Personal Data with your consent or as necessary to complete any transaction or provide any service you have requested/contracted. We also share data when required by law or to respond to legal processes; to protect our customers; to protect lives; to maintain the security of our services; and to protect property rights or ICS.
Marketing
We would like to be able to send you information about ICS products and services that may be or may become of interest to you, such as publicizing training courses, events, projects, news, and up-to-date information on ICS activities, subject to your consent.

Access and correction of your information
We want to be sure of the accuracy and reliability of the information we hold about you.
We rely on the User to provide us with accurate and complete information and to update the data in relation to any changes in the information provided.
User rights and data retention times
Users have the right to withdraw their consent to the processing of personal data concerning them at any time, without jeopardizing the lawfulness of the processing carried out based on the consent previously given. They can also ask ICS for access to their personal data, for it to be rectified or erased, as well as for the processing to be restricted as far as the user is concerned. You can also object to processing, exercise your right to data portability, and request a copy of the information we hold about you. You can request a partial or total copy of the information held about you by the ICS, as well as exercise any other of your rights, via the postal address Rua Dr Roberto Frias, Campus da FEUP, Edifício G – Piso 1, 4200-465 Porto, or via the email address ics@fe.up.pt.
Personal Data necessary for the performance of the contract to which the User is a party, for the fulfillment of the legal obligations to which the Controller is subject, and those necessary for the legitimate interests pursued by ICS, are not included in the previous point.
If the requests made by the User are manifestly unfounded or excessive, in particular due to their repetitive nature, ICS, under the legal framework in force, may demand payment of a reasonable fee taking into account the administrative costs of providing the information or communication, or of taking the measures requested, or refuse to comply with the request.
Without prejudice to any legal or regulatory provisions to the contrary, Personal Data will only be kept for the minimum period necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or subsequently processed, after which it will be deleted or, if it is in the interest of ICS, processed for statistical purposes, anonymized and the Data Subject cannot be identified.
Further processing of Personal Data for a purpose other than that for which the data was collected requires the consent of the user. Before such processing, the Data Controller shall provide the Data Subject with information on that purpose and any other relevant information.
Security
ICS applies appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure security appropriate to the risk involved in keeping Personal Data on file and during its transmission.
ICS has a computer system capable of resisting, with a given level of confidence, accidental events or malicious or illicit actions that jeopardize the availability, authenticity, integrity, and confidentiality of the Personal Data stored or transmitted, as well as the security of the related services offered or accessible through these networks and systems.
Right of Free Resolution
Right of withdrawal, under the terms of article 10 of Decree-Law no. 24/2014, of 14 February.
Arbitration Centre and ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution)
In compliance with Law no. 144/2015, of 08 September, we would like to inform you that in the event of a dispute, the consumer may resort to the Porto Consumer Information and Arbitration Centre/Consumer Arbitration Court.
