Materials and Sustainability
Development of new materials to meet energy and environmental requirements.
Energy and environmental sustainability
Facades are one of the most influential building elements in building performance and comfort, contributing significantly to concerns about energy and environmental sustainability. On the other hand, masonry wall solutions are still one of the most used solutions in building facades.
In order to respond to the growing demands for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, masonry materials need to be improved in terms of performance. New materials also need to be developed which are increasingly concerned about energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
ICS has developed important R&D activities in this area, supporting the construction industry in the development of masonry blocks and state-of-the-art plastering systems to make walls with optimised thermal and mechanical behaviour and that consider environmental sustainability concerns, without compromising other functional aspects associated with building facades.
