Holographic Integration for Geosciences Education and Mining

HoloGEM (Holographic Integration for Geosciences Education and Mining) is a 36-month Erasmus+ KA220-VET project dedicated to revolutionizing education in Geosciences and Mining. Running from September 2022 to August 2025, the project unites academic institutions and vocational schools across Europe to create a modular, interactive, and modern hybrid learning system.

The Challenge

Negative Public Image

Often mistakenly associated with only coal mining and hard, dirty work, leading to a negative public perception.

Outdated Education

Curriculums are often heavily based on written material and lack the digital tools to engage modern students effectively.

Critical Talent Shortage

The number of students entering Mining Engineering and related Geosciences fields is critically low and declining across Europe.

Digital Transformation Gap

Schools struggle to keep pace with the necessary digital transformation in these highly specialized subjects.

Our Solution: Project Objectives

  • Innovate the Curriculum: Transform existing school curriculums into an interactive, attractive, and standardized digital curriculum
  • Introduce New Topics: Integrate key modern concepts like green mining, sustainability, circular economy, and occupational health, safety, and hygiene.
  • Empower Educators: Prepare teachers to embrace digital transformation by providing them with the necessary training and innovative tools.
  • Boost Enrollment: Increase the number of students who are aware of and interested in pursuing higher education in Mining and Geology sciences.
  • Promote Inclusion: Actively focus on attracting female students, demonstrating that Mining Engineering is not just a male profession.

What’s In It For You?

Are you a student interested in technology, science, and the environment? HoloGEM is for you.

This isn’t just about textbooks. You’ll get to use cutting-edge tools like Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D holographic models to see complex minerals and mining processes up close. Our goal is to make learning fun, interactive, and relevant to the real world.

Discover how this field is essential for a ‘green future’ and find new career paths you may have never considered.
