I have been following FEUP's pioneering work in the design, construction, and operation of uncrewed underwater, surface and aerial vehicles for applications in the Earth sciences, security, and defense, and find it very impressive.
The new Aerospace Engineering degree is a significant and essential step towards advancing the education of future engineers by leveraging, for example, the existing know-how in uncrewed aerial vehicles and in software for networked vehicle systems. I am very much interested in collaborating with this initiative. I am particularly interested in work in advanced air mobility and resilient autonomous systems, as well as in spacecraft mission design and control. I am also interested in sustainable flight operations, in air and space.
The Robotics Institute at the University of Michigan has a visitor program and we welcome collaborations, especially from researchers with hands-on experience. We teach a summer school every year, and autonomous flight will be a focus in the 2024-25 year.
