Forming individuals capable of autonomous research work for the academic and industrial field, to bring value for their organizations, using a multi-disciplinary approach to educate a new generation of aware leaders with expertise in sustainable energy systems.

The focus on different fields involving sustainable energy system, from design to analysis, leadership and entrepreneurship, provides graduates with the tools to succeed in their respective fields.

The symposium will occur within the parallel sessions of the Doctoral Congress in Engineering and it will be an excellent opportunity to share ongoing work or results of PhD or Master’s thesis.

The symposium on Sustainable Energy Systems welcomes the submission of abstracts that include relevant themes within the Energy and Sustainability scope, namely:

Energy Planning, Market regulation and Environmental Policies

This section aggregates change driving research topics that contribute towards sustainable societies in terms of energy use. Energy planning issues, modelling, analysis and design. Proposed improvements in energy policies related to energy efficiency, renewable energies, greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Energy market, regulation, and sustainable development. Three essential areas to promote reliable, affordable, clean, integrated energy systems in the future.

Sustainable Cities, People and Built Environment

The concept for sustainable cities relies on the available resources and their efficient use, particularly in terms of energy. Urban communities depend on the built environment for shelter and comfort; due to this fact, focused attention should be given to the following research topics: Sustainable rehabilitation of buildings from urban areas, microgeneration of renewable energy and urban metabolism. Fields of knowledge essential for the development of innovative solutions or finding possible areas of improvements within this context, while accounting for the diversified sociodemographic and geographical features of each area.

Advanced Electric Networks

Electric power systems is currently undergoing a transition towards a decentralized and highly participative concept, characterized by the integration of renewable energy sources, where consumers become prosumers. Focal research areas include demand response, renewable energy generation, energy storage and end user approaches. Innovative efforts to monitor, manage and control the currently changing power grids. Information technology and “big data” and their application to enhance and improve the efficient performance of energy networks in smart grids setting. Smart mobility and energy demand technologies are all considered target topics of interest for the scope or this symposium.

Submissions

DEADLINE EXTENSION: 16th May

Format: accepts for oral communication/poster

Please check the ‘Instructions for authors’ page.

Note for posters: Posters must include research topic, context and motivation, methodology, results if available and conclusions.
