GETTING AROUND
AIRPORT – CITY CENTRE – VENUE OF THE EVENT
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO), or Porto Airport in short, is located approximately 11 km or 7 miles north of Porto city centre (around 20 – 30 minutes’ ride, depending on the traffic).
Metro do Porto
You can easily get from the airport to the city centre (or vice-versa) by metro. Line E (Purple) runs every 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the time and day of the week. Line E: Airport – Estádio do Dragão – Airport (see the metro journey planner here).
For arriving at the event venue from the city centre, you need to take line D (direction ‘Hospital São João’) at the Trindade station, located at the heart of the city centre, and come off at the ‘Polo Universitário’ metro stop. This stop is right in front of UPTEC and about a 10 minutes’ walk from FEUP. If you are staying in one of the parter hotels of the event (for instance, at the Eurostars Oporto Hotel), you could come off at the last stop of the line, ‘Hospital São João’, and have a 10-15 min’ walk until the hotel.
The ticket sales points can be found in all of the metro stops across the city (incl. at the airport) and the fares are determined by your destination. You need to purchase both the metro card and add on it also the specific ticket (i.e. destination stop). Do not forget to validate your ticket in the yellow machines installed at the stops before taking a ride.
Buses (STCP)
STCP (Porto public transport company) runs the bus service across the Porto Metropolitan Area and has at its disposal three lines that connect the airport and different parts of Porto, running between 05:30 and 00:30, about every 25-30 minutes (be aware that line 604 has shorter daily operating hours). You can consult the detailed scedules of each of these lines via the above linked STCP website.
Line 601 (Cordoaria – Airport)
Line 602 (Cordoaria – Airport – via Padrão de Moreira)
Line 604 (Hospital S. João – Airport – via Crestins)
Taxis and ridesharing companies
There are plenty of taxis available just outside the airport’s terminal building. A taxi ride can cost about 20 to 30 € from the airport to the city centre and you can either pre-book it or take it directly in front of the terminal building. You can expect the fares to rise by 20% in the evenings and during the weekends. Alternatively, you can always call a taxi (see, for instance, this list here with some of the taxi companies operating in Porto). For the ones who prefer ridesharing companies, Uber and Bolt are duly present in the city of Porto.
